Stop Talking Over The Music
He just can’t help himself, can he? It’s some sort of psychological issue. Today he spoke over at least 5 songs, the last straw for me was his stupid comment over “Stairway To Heaven.” Ok, okok, we all get it, Paradise is a walled garden.
The man just doesn’t care about anything but how he sounds and if he remembers that he’s said something 15 times already, he certainly doesn’t care and just continues to drone on and on and on about the same crap. This paradise thing today is a perfect example of John’s inability to control his commentary. Does he really think he’s providing insightful commentary?
Perhaps all of us with compete mental facilities are not his target audience. I think he’s going for the Alzheimer’s demographic.

there is a bumper sticker on a pole over at el chilito’s parking lot which says “if you don’t teach your kids about john aelli, who will?”.
i think john aelli is like the animated character “spaceghost” on the comedy central program from years ago. spaceghost would interview celebs while talking about whatever topic might be floating through his mind. john aelli is the spaceghost of KUT. After “the titantic” came out i remember weeks of interviews in which the conversation inevitably included a chunk devoted to that movie and how the guest MUST see it. other notable obsessions from the past? there were weeks devoted to john denver’s music after he died; the many hours of music by the band “queen” prompted by lord knows what; the fact that bands often do not begin performing their acts before midnight; the weather. there are so many to choose from.
over the past 25 years i have listened through the obsessions because the rest was generally interesting, entertaining often original and aelli did not feel the need to talk so much. he needs to be re-leashed.

Okay, I should have shared this a month ago but here it is:
We were looking for something to do around the holidays and I had heard about the lighting of the Christmas tree at the Capitol and the “Sing -Along with YOU KNOW WHO”! I wanted to go, but then didn’t want to go because of YOU KNOW WHO. I gave in to reason and headed to the capitol. Well, it was a “Sing-Along” but every second or third song, it was John singing a solo!!!! That’s not a “Sing-Along”. I couldn’t take it and had to leave half way through. Once again, it had to be about YOU KNOW WHO!
I wanted to yell out SHUTUPJOHN!
I have started listening to Pandora.com at work in the morning instead of getting agitated listening to YOU KNOW WHO.

Wow, that’s completely retarded.
It seems so silly to be so agitated about this man, but he really does drive me nuts. It’s just so obvious the guy needs to move on but he must have a bunch of old retirees that give during his show at pledge drive. I mean, the 70+ set is about the only demographic I can fathom that would “appreciate” his ridiculous ego.

Let’s not leave out the times he actually stops the record and starts talking: Aelli once began playing a Dead Can Dance song, stopped it in the middle, and said something to the effect of, “Somebody told me this band was good, but they’re really depressing. We won’t be hearing from this band any more.” Then he proceeded to play some insipid song, by a band that he did like, over and over again, about 5 times in a row (one of his most annoying “quirks”, and one of those things his obnoxious “fans” apparently love him for).
If they ever make a movie about John Aelli, he would have to be played by Fred Willard. Doesn’t matter if Willard looks like him or not, he was born to play this egomaniacal boob, hopefully in a film directed by Christopher Guest.

Today I heard “really, really” used twice in sentences as adjectives to really, really emphasize something John wanted to drive home to the listener. My God, it made feel really, really pathetic that I put up with that crap.

That John, he’s quite the linguist. Is it me, or does he have the volume and bass turned WAAAAAY up on his mic?
